Three foods developed with Kofu Commercial High School students will put Yamanashi’s traditional Chozenjina vegetable on convenience-store shelves from November 2, the prefecture announced. The collaboration involves local growers and Seven-Eleven Japan.
The planned range comprises a fried-rice rice ball, a chicken pasta salad and a white-fish pasta dish. Sales are scheduled for Seven-Eleven stores in Yamanashi and Nagano, although only some products will be offered in Nagano. The announcement does not specify availability at every individual store.
Students are also scheduled to sell the products themselves at the school’s November 3 ‘Kosho Department Store’ event. The prefecture describes the project as an effort to raise recognition of the vegetable and support its producers; those aims are not reported sales results.
Local perspective
This project connects a local ingredient with an everyday retail format rather than requiring consumers to attend a specialist food event. Because growers, students and a retailer are involved, it offers a concrete route for presenting agricultural identity through product development. The regional difference in the planned range also shows why access should be described precisely. Whether recognition or producer income actually improves will require evidence after sales begin.
