Hida City announced October 30 that the Kamioka fossil forum will take place November 7, with exhibitions and activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Research talks at the Kamioka Community Centre are scheduled for 1:30–3 p.m., with 200 first-come places. Talks and exhibits are free.

A separate rock-and-fossil workshop at the Sky Dome Kamioka roadside station has 150 first-come places, registration on the day and a 300-yen materials charge. Research aiming to find dinosaur fossils follows the discovery of crocodyliform teeth in the area in 2024. The programme distinguishes existing finds from the project’s future search.

Local perspective

Presenting known specimens alongside an unfinished search can show visitors how local scientific knowledge develops. It is important to keep that process separate from the promise of a dinosaur discovery: joining a workshop does not amount to participating in the research excavation. The two venues also require visitors to choose between activities whose times can overlap.
