The street outside Yamagata City Hall is scheduled to become one-way, with bicycle lanes on both sides, in a road-layout trial starting on October 31. The prefecture’s Murayama regional newsletter says the two-lane trial is planned to continue until September 30, 2027.
The trial is part of a walkability plan adopted in March 2026, using the history and culture around Bunshokan to make the area more inviting for people on foot. It will examine whether conditions for pedestrians and cyclists improve and what effects the changes have on surrounding traffic.
The October issue also advises bus users that the stop in front of JA will be removed, with services shifted to Yamagata City Hall or Hatagomachi stops.
