Okayama Korakuen has selected nine people for the 22nd cohort of its Korakujuku volunteer-guide programme, the prefecture announced on October 29. Their entrance ceremony is scheduled for November 5, from 1:30 to 2 p.m., at the garden. This is an announcement of selected trainees, not an open recruitment call.

The trainees will take 15 sessions through next March covering local history and culture, garden management and visitor hospitality. They are scheduled to start garden guiding on March 18, 2027. The programme covers Korakuen and Okayama Castle outside the castle keep. No foreign-language service or immediate availability of these new guides is promised.

Local perspective

Training in garden management alongside history can help connect what visitors see with the work that maintains it. The months between selection and guiding also show that interpretation is prepared, rather than appearing automatically when a destination attracts attention. This is an assessment of the training design, not evidence of better visitor satisfaction or greater inbound demand.
