Yamagata Prefectural Library will hold three free children’s kamishibai storytelling sessions on November 3, alongside a separate workshop for people who perform the stories.
The open sessions take place in the library entrance area from 10:30 to 11 a.m., 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., and 3 to 3:30 p.m. No application is required, and anyone may attend. The programme is part of the library’s Autumn Festa at Yugakukan.
The accompanying workshop focuses on kamishibai’s characteristics and performance techniques through demonstrations. It is aimed at volunteers, nursery staff, library workers and other performers, illustrating how the event combines an activity for children with training for the adults who deliver it. That session runs from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. in the lifelong-learning centre’s first training room, is free, and has 30 places requiring an application through the library website.
