Applications are open until November 4 for a November 22 robot-building workshop at Matsuda Town Lifelong Learning Center in Kanagawa. It is for children in elementary-school grades three to six who live or attend school in the prefecture, with 24 places allocated by lottery.

Participants solder components to assemble a small robot with a controller in the morning, then race against the clock on a special course in the afternoon. They can take the completed robot home. The currently listed materials charge is ¥1,600, including tax, the kit and batteries, payable in cash at the venue; the prefecture notes that the price may change during the year.

Registration uses the prefecture’s online application system, with lottery results sent within three days after applications close. Children need lunch for this full-day activity. The programme is intended to introduce practical construction and control skills through making and operating a robot.
