A trial on Akita’s Oga Line will collect smartphone photographs of station facilities from November 1 to 29. Digital Entertainment Asset announced the project with JR East’s Akita office on October 26. The eight stations run from Detohama to Oga; the announced photography window is 6:15 a.m.–5 p.m.
Participants use designated points to photograph listed assets, including station buildings and crossing barriers. Images are sent to the railway office to examine their use in monitoring and maintenance. Marked shooting positions are intended to protect passengers, trains and photographers. The period can change or end early depending on progress; the project is a trial, not a replacement for professional inspection.
Local perspective
Existing journeys could supply observations from several stations without sending a separate survey team for each image. The important question is whether those photographs provide information railway staff can use reliably. The trial design links local mobility with maintenance work, but its announcement supplies no measured efficiency gain.
