Kagoshima Prefecture reports 28 confirmed cases of classical swine fever in wild boars as of October 22, 2026, and is asking people entering woodland to help prevent its spread. Anyone finding a dead wild boar is asked not to touch it and to contact a regional prefectural office or municipality. Visitors should remove mud before leaving the area where possible.

The prefecture’s first confirmed wild-boar case was found in Kirishima on November 19, 2025. Its current precautions also address pig farms: alongside vaccination, farmers are asked to check biosecurity, observe animals daily and report abnormalities promptly. The 28-case figure concerns wild boars, not 28 pig farms.
