Aichi has released six online lessons on helping foreign residents during disasters and is accepting applications for a practical shelter-training session in Toyohashi on December 6, 2026. The online material, available from October 22, totals about 50 minutes and is open to anyone interested in the subject.
The lessons include ways to explain danger in easy-to-understand Japanese, support during evacuation and links between Japanese-language schools and local communities. The prefecture has offered this training annually since fiscal 2016. The in-person session is for municipal, local international-association and municipal social-welfare council staff. It runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at Toyohashi city hall, with around 30 places and a lottery if oversubscribed. Applications close November 20. Participants must watch all online lessons beforehand; participation is free, apart from their own internet charges.
