About 150 people are expected to take part in a clean-up of the Sumiyoshi River in Oita on November 1, according to the city’s October 23 announcement. Work is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m., with opening proceedings at 9 and closing proceedings at 10. It will be cancelled in severe weather.
Participants are due to enter the river to collect rubbish and dead vegetation along roughly 900 metres between Shide Bridge and Nishi-Tamuro Bridge. The planned group includes members of the river clean-up council, residents of four nearby neighbourhoods, local businesses and prefectural and city staff.
The city says the council has led these clean-ups since fiscal 1989 as part of efforts to improve the river’s condition.
