Aichi residents aged 16 and over who do not understand Japanese can apply for a free online beginner course by November 15. Nationality is not a restriction, and around 20 places are available.
Eight Tuesday sessions are planned from December 1, 2026, to January 26, 2027, from 10 a.m. to noon, with no class on December 29. Zoom is the planned platform. Participants will practise introductions and everyday conversation through exchanges with Japanese-language partners; they must cover their own connection costs.
The course responds to the difficulty some residents with overseas backgrounds face in attending local Japanese classes. It forms part of Aichi’s regional Japanese-language education work under policies adopted in 2022. Application forms are provided in several languages. If oversubscribed, participants will be selected with reference to Japanese proficiency and other factors.
