A free puzzle walk at Ehime Forest Park in Iyo is scheduled for October 31–November 27. Takeda Forestry, which designed it for the prefecture, announced the plans on October 29. Kits are distributed at the park’s management office.

Participants use a booklet and physical clues along walking paths, including exhibits about forestry. The programme is intended for elementary-school pupils through adults, with children accompanied by an adult. Mobile reception is poor in parts of the park, so the organiser recommends taking notes. The story introduces planting, growing, harvesting and using wood; the fictional plot should not be confused with an actual historical letter.

Local perspective

Using objects already in the park as clues can encourage visitors to look at a forest as a worked landscape rather than scenery alone. The forestry cycle supplies a specific link between recreation and local industry. That educational design does not demonstrate improved forest management or a reduction in disaster risk.
