Charichari and OpenStreet began their shared-cycle rollout in Nagasaki City at 10 a.m. on October 28, according to Charichari’s October 29 report. The initial network connects JR Nagasaki Station, Nagasaki Stadium City and BeneX Nagasaki Brick Hall. The two operators plan forty electrically assisted bicycles in total, twenty each.
The operators describe the opening phase as a trial to examine use and local needs. Both services use smartphone apps, but their pricing arrangements differ. Charichari lists an assisted-bike rate of 20.5 yen a minute; HELLO CYCLING directs users to its vehicle- and area-specific prices. Travellers should check the app for current bicycle and return-space availability rather than assume that a listed hub guarantees a bicycle.
Local perspective
Placing the first hubs at a rail station and two event venues gives the trial a clear transport question: can short bicycle trips complement arrival by train and visits to events? Three hubs and forty bicycles make its initial scale concrete. That network does not yet establish citywide coverage or reduced traffic, and those outcomes should be judged from actual use rather than the launch ceremony.
