ATOMica announced on October 23 that two foods developed with Miyazaki university students would go on sale at Lawson stores in Kyushu and the Shimonoseki area from October 27. The products are a gyoza-inspired cheese rice ball and a cheese-cream bread using Miyazaki pan-fired tea. Their listed tax-inclusive prices are 214 yen and 167 yen respectively.
The student programme began in April with Lawson and other partners. Students worked on concepts, recipes, prototypes and proposals, rather than simply choosing packaging. The announced sales area extends beyond Miyazaki, but the release does not verify current stock in every store.
Local perspective
Putting a regional flavour into an everyday format offers an accessible first encounter with a place’s food culture. Student involvement also makes the development process part of the story, rather than treating local identity as a label added at the end. That connection is distinct from evidence of stronger ingredient demand or higher producer incomes.
