Okayama is asking residents to conserve water as low reservoir levels continue in the Takahashi River basin. Its October 23, 2026 update lists the restrictions in place since October 2 as 10% for water-supply use, 15% for industrial use and 50% for agricultural use.
The percentages are restrictions on water abstraction by use category. The prefecture warns that future rainfall conditions could affect daily life; it does not report a general household water-supply shutdown.
Restrictions in the separate Asahi River basin were lifted on October 8. To use limited water effectively, the prefecture asks households to turn taps off promptly, consolidate laundry loads and reuse remaining bathwater.
