Aichi has published additional estimates of how river improvements affected water levels during the September 8 downpour. The October 23 documents examine the Shinkawa and Tenpakugawa rivers as part of a review conducted with the transport ministry’s Chubu bureau.
For the Shinkawa at Kujino, the prefecture estimates a reduction of about 47 centimetres: the observed level was 6.07 metres, compared with a calculated 6.54 metres using the earlier river channel. For the Tenpakugawa gauge, it reports an effect of about 2.1 metres after adjusting for a 1.51-metre change in the planned high-water level.
Both assessments concern improvements undertaken after the destructive Tokai heavy rain of 2000. They compare the September 2026 flow with earlier channel conditions; they are estimates of the works’ effect, rather than a direct subtraction of water levels measured in the two different storms. The review’s first meeting took place on September 30.
