JR East’s Tochigi office plans a rail-learning event at Oyama Station on November 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Its October 29 announcement places the venue inside the conventional-line ticket gates. Station admission is separate: 160 yen for adults or 80 yen for children per two hours.
Talks are free, with 50 seats per session and possible crowd controls. Timed work-experience tickets for children through junior-high-school age cost 500 yen, payable only by transport IC card; sales start at 9:30 a.m. The event uses wood from railway forests, which the operator explains were planted to help protect lines against wind, snow and blowing sand.
Local perspective
Railway-forest wood makes a less visible part of transport infrastructure tangible at a station. It gives rail enthusiasts a connection between landscape management and reliable journeys, alongside the more familiar trains and uniforms. The educational value follows that link; attendance does not demonstrate an environmental benefit or guaranteed access to every activity.
