Sunborn’s October 28 announcement invites applications for a November 28 trail event in Shodoshima’s Obe area. The approximately seven-kilometre course has 528 metres of ascent and a two-hour limit, starting at 10 a.m. Fifty places are offered, with applications due November 15 at 5 p.m. and participation decisions announced from November 22 at 5 p.m.
The 5,500-yen tax-inclusive fee covers trail maintenance and 2,200 yen in market tickets for the linked Setouchi JAM festival. Registration takes place at Shodoshima Auto Village Yoshida, with dedicated buses to the start and finish at Sainutsuno in Tonosho. Applicants must be healthy and at least ten; prior trail-running experience is not required. The route follows pilgrimage paths and old mountain tracks maintained with residents.
Local perspective
Including maintenance in the fee gives participation a stated connection to the upkeep of the paths being used. The market credit also links a physical activity with spending at the accompanying festival. Neither mechanism proves long-term heritage preservation or producer income gains; the climb and two-hour limit remain important choices for prospective visitors.
