A free public lecture in Kyoto on November 15 will examine how soil and microorganisms support Ashiu Forest. Researchers from Kyoto and Kyushu universities will discuss the forest’s condition and recent findings from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kyoto Institute, Library and Archives’ main hall.

The event has 400 places allocated in order of application. Advance registration closes at 5 p.m. on November 12, through the linked form or by telephone to Kyoto University’s Ashiu Research Forest. Each attendee needs a separate form entry. Walk-in attendance is possible if seats remain on the day.

The prefecture links the discussion to concerns that deer browsing is damaging vegetation and may affect soil, microbes and the cycling of materials that sustain the forest.
