Two outdoor art gatherings in Marugame will pair tea-bowl making with stalls devised by local project members. MIMOCA announced the dates on October 23: November 23 beside the east side of Marugame Castle, and November 29 at Ishi no Hiroba, south of the Higashishioirigawa greenway park. Each runs from around noon until sunset.
Admission requires no booking and is free, but activities can cost extra. Painting a bowl for firing costs 2,500 yen, while the tea experience costs 400 yen; bowls are limited and cannot be reserved. Residents have developed the stall project through workshops since May 2025. There is no dedicated parking, and severe weather can cancel the gatherings.
Local perspective
The workshops make the stalls a way to encounter residents’ own creative choices, rather than simply a market of standard souvenirs. For an overseas visitor, that gives the two dates a local social dimension alongside the tea activity. It also argues for leaving time to watch and talk, while recognising that neither language assistance nor a quick turnaround for firing bowls has been promised.
