Kochi City has set out a timetable to change how municipal junior-high-school club activities are provided. From April 2029 it plans a phased move towards a system in which teachers generally do not coach clubs on holidays. Teacher-led weekday club activities are scheduled to end from the 2032 school year.

The city’s October 23 update places these changes within a wider shift towards community-based provision. It says the aim is to maintain opportunities for children to take part in sport, arts and culture through cooperation with local people, private organisations and other institutions, across school boundaries.

The city identifies falling numbers of children and reforms to teachers’ working conditions as reasons for changing the existing school-based model. It says the approach is intended to build a sustainable environment for activities, rather than simply reduce or abolish school clubs. Further policy and progress updates will appear on the same city page.
