A free birdwatching walk at Matsue Castle park on November 1 will welcome beginners without advance registration, Shimane Prefecture announced on October 23. Participants should meet outside Tonomachi Post Office by 8:30 a.m. for a session lasting about two hours.

The walk will focus on seeing local wild birds and listening to their calls in the park near Matsue’s Tonomachi district. The organisers will lend binoculars and field guides, and members of the Wild Bird Society of Japan’s Shimane branch will lead the session.

The event will generally be cancelled in rain, although light rain will not necessarily stop it. The prefecture asks people who feel unwell to refrain from attending. Its wildlife-control office is the listed contact for enquiries.
