Pilgrimage Japan plans to open GOOD HENRO HOSTEL T1 NARUTO on November 1, opposite JR Bando Station in Naruto. Its October 29 announcement places Ryozenji, the first temple of the Shikoku eighty-eight-temple pilgrimage, a ten-minute walk away. The hostel has twenty-three semi-private compartment beds and one private twin room.
Staff consultations about routes and equipment are offered in Japanese and English. A November–December opening plan costs 5,500 yen per person per night, including tax and breakfast, for a compartment. The private twin has separate pricing, and availability is not guaranteed.
Local perspective
A station-side overnight stop with bilingual advice addresses practical preparation before a walking pilgrimage, particularly for visitors arriving without detailed local knowledge. Its proximity to the first temple connects rail arrival with a walking departure. Those features explain the service’s role; they do not establish that every pilgrim needs it or that the route has become easier or safer.
