Niigata Prefecture’s October 29 announcement sets a rice promotion at five Tokyo restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026. The main period is November 1–30, but Tanimoto’s window is November 6–December 5. Opening days differ by restaurant, and supply conditions may prevent the advertised rice from being served.
Akasaka Watanabe plans to serve Niigata-grown Koshihikari; the other four restaurants will use Shinnosuke. The prefecture describes Koshihikari as a long-established local mainstay and says Shinnosuke debuted in 2017. This is a Tokyo dining promotion for a regional agricultural product, not an event taking place in Niigata or a guarantee of a particular menu on every date.
Local perspective
A restaurant meal can introduce a growing region to travellers who will not visit the farms themselves. The use of two named varieties gives that introduction more specificity than an undifferentiated label of Japanese rice. Because different restaurants serve them, however, this is not a controlled side-by-side tasting, and the announcement supplies no measurement of new farm sales or tourism visits.
