A contractor running a hospital-visitor support programme for Aichi exposed 154 email addresses belonging to support workers in a group message on October 21, the prefecture said on October 22. The addresses were placed in the recipient field rather than BCC, making them visible to other support workers.
The association sent the message at 11:55 a.m. and emailed an apology and deletion request at 3:47 p.m. that day. Aichi said it would instruct the contractor on proper information handling and preventing a recurrence.
The programme arranges visits by people from outside medical institutions to patients hospitalised with mental illness, providing someone to listen and offer practical information. The reported disclosure concerned workers’ email addresses.
