Kanagawa Prefecture plans a two-month grouper farming trial beginning around mid-December 2026 at a fisheries-cooperative site on Jogashima in Miura, according to an October 16 announcement. The project will use a closed, recirculating land-based aquaculture system powered by solar generation and fuel cells. It brings together a local fisheries cooperative, a university and private businesses. The prefecture aims to explore an additional income opportunity alongside existing fishing activities and to assess the project’s economic effects.
