Koshigaya City reported on October 30 that its autumn festival had taken place on October 10–11 around the east side of Koshigaya Station and the old Nikko road. This is a report of a completed event, rather than an invitation to an upcoming festival. The city says it was the first staging since designation as a municipal intangible folk cultural property.
The procession involved more than 300 people and eight floats. A linked route invited participants to visit shrines and local festival meeting places to collect stamps and shrine seals. The city traces the festival’s prayers for harvests and local prosperity back more than three centuries to the Edo period.
Local perspective
The route through several local sites makes the festival intelligible as a neighbourhood network, not only a float spectacle. For readers interested in historic Japanese streets, that relationship between processions and meeting places provides a useful way to understand the setting. The report does not measure extra spending or establish dates for another edition.
