Gunma has urged users of Furusato Choice to check breach notices from its operator and beware of impersonation messages. In an October 22 update, the prefecture said the operator had emailed registered members on October 21 about whether their information was affected.

Gunma uses the service to accept furusato-nozei donations. Its notice says donations to the prefecture remain possible through other portals while affected services are suspended. No restart date was given.

The prefecture relayed the operator’s October 21 nationwide figure of 4,454,097 affected records, with no prefectural breakdown and the investigation continuing. Listed fields included hashed passwords. Gunma advised users who reused the same email-and-password combination elsewhere to change those other passwords.
