A free food-learning seminar in Yamagata city will combine a parent-and-child cooking activity with a lecture about local food on November 15, 2026. Applications close on October 29, with a lottery if demand exceeds capacity.
The venue is Yamagata Creative City Center Q1. Ten child-and-parent pairs, with children attending elementary school and both participants living in the prefecture, can join a class making black-tea cake with locally grown La France pears. Cooking runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a food-education lecture at 11:40 a.m. and tasting from 12:45 p.m. Twenty additional prefectural residents can attend the lecture.
The seminar is part of Yamagata’s effort to help children understand local agricultural produce and local consumption through direct experience. The cooking activity uses eggs, dairy, wheat and soy; organisers say people with allergies cannot participate.

山形県は11月15日、山形市のやまがたクリエイティブシティセンターQ1で、無料の親子スイーツ教室と食育講座を開く。申込期限は10月29日、定員超過時は抽選。県内在住の小学生と保護者10組20人が県産ラ・フランスの紅茶ケーキを作り、調理は午前10時30分～11時30分、食育講座は午前11時40分から、試食は午後0時45分から。講座には一般県民20人も参加できる。県産農産物や地産地消への理解を深める取組で、料理には卵・乳・小麦・大豆を使い、アレルギーがある人は参加できないと案内している。
