Okayama has alerted donors after receiving word on October 20 that member information had leaked from the Furusato Choice portal. The prefecture uses the service, operated by Trustbank, to accept donations under its Furusato Okayama programme.

According to the prefecture’s October 21 page update, related services had been suspended from October 19 after signs of possible unauthorised system access were detected. The notice does not give a number of affected Okayama donors or specify which individuals’ information was exposed.

Furusato nozei is a scheme through which people can support local governments and express preferences about how donations are used. In this notice, Okayama asks people who reuse the same email-and-password combination elsewhere to change those other passwords. It also warns against suspicious messages impersonating Trustbank or related organisations. These are the prefecture’s precautions; the notice does not establish that every donor has been affected.
