Ninety-two students at Hanaizumi High School in Ichinoseki, Iwate, attended a lesson on floods and landslides on October 15, 2026. An October 20 prefectural update says the session ran from 1:55 to 3:20 p.m. Instructors used videos, photographs and disaster maps to explain hazards, protective infrastructure and how to gather information for evacuation decisions. The lesson was intended to help students make informed decisions themselves rather than simply waiting for evacuation information from authorities.
