Matsue is seeking participants for a project running from November 25 to January 15, 2027, with three sessions including field visits and discussion. The October 26 announcement sets an application deadline of November 10 at 3 p.m. Each of the two target areas has fifteen places.
The project involves a farm-stay council in Higashiizumo and the company Update in Shimane-cho. Participation is free, but participants arrange and pay for their travel and accommodation; field-trip lunches and social gatherings also cost extra. Matsue has pursued its own workation approach since 2019, combining work stays with local connections. The new project asks groups to consider local challenges rather than offering a conventional sightseeing itinerary.
Local perspective
The three-session structure gives participants repeated contact with local businesses, which is more relevant to developing a working relationship than a single scenic visit. The separate travel and lodging costs also make the offer different from a subsidised holiday. This design provides an opportunity for collaboration; the announcement does not demonstrate new business revenue or lasting relocation.
