Niigata police arrested a Minamiuonuma city employee and two company employees on October 15, 2026, in a suspected bribery case linked to a roadside-station redevelopment project, according to an October 19 report by Niigata Keizai Shimbun.
The city employee, 32, was arrested on suspicion of receiving bribes. The two company employees were arrested on suspicion of offering them. Police allege that the official received meals and drinks worth a total of 127,716 yen on six occasions in connection with a city contract for the project.
The report said police declined to disclose whether the three admitted or denied the allegations, or how the case came to light, citing the investigation.
