Aida Sekkei plans a children’s woodcraft workshop at Ageo’s industrial festival on November 7 and 8, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Its October 29 notice places the company’s booth inside the Ageo civic gymnasium, within the industrial fair. The wider festival also uses Yurigaoka Park.

Children will choose their own themes and make objects from offcuts produced by the company’s precut timber factory. The firm says this is its fifth year of workshops at the festival, having started in 2022. The announcement does not specify a workshop fee or guarantee places for every visitor.

Local perspective

An offcut connects a finished craft object with the normally unseen preparation of housebuilding materials. Handling it gives children a concrete way to consider how usable material remains after industrial processing. This is a learning opportunity, rather than evidence of a measured reduction in the factory’s waste.
