People interested in farming in Shiga can apply for a one-day tomato-growing experience in Yasu on November 8. Applications close on November 2, with around eight participants selected for the free course.

The session runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Heiwado Farm’s Tsutsumi field. Classroom study and practical work will cover mini-tomato varieties, crop management and growing houses. Applicants must be at least 16, interested in agriculture and able to arrange transport to the venue.

The programme is intended to help prospective farmers test their ideas against work on a real farm before entering the industry. It is organised by Heiwado and Shiga’s agricultural workforce development foundation, with prefectural support. Applications go to the foundation by post, fax or email, using the documents linked from the official announcement.
