GO announced on October 29 that it will run its app-booked shared-taxi service in Kyoto on weekends and public holidays from November 1–29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fourteen boarding or alighting points cover an area of about four kilometres between Kyoto Station and Higashiyama. Kodaiji is drop-off only. Ten taxi operators are cooperating.

Passengers choose stops and a time in the app’s Economy tab, paying the confirmed fare through GO Pay. The service combines separate groups in one vehicle. Each passenger may bring only one item small enough to keep on their lap. Vehicles leave at the scheduled time without waiting; a missed ride incurs the full fare as a cancellation charge.

Local perspective

The luggage rule makes this a more plausible option for a light sightseeing trip than for a hotel transfer with suitcases. Fixed stops also make checking the final walk essential, even when the destination name looks familiar. Sharing seats is the operating design; reduced citywide congestion remains an aim, not a demonstrated result of this announcement.
