Hiroshima City’s October 26 notice sets the Asaminami residents’ festival for November 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The venue is the Maeda Housing Asaminami Community Cultural Center and its surroundings. No parking is provided; the city asks visitors to use public transport.
The festival has been planned and run by residents since 1980. This year’s performance programme includes kagura and folk songs alongside local clubs, while a separate exchange area hosts food sales, a bazaar and games. Performance presentations are scheduled from 10:50 a.m.; the opening ceremony begins at 10.
Local perspective
The long-running resident organisation makes this a chance to see how neighbourhood groups present their own culture, alongside formal cultural attractions. Separate performance and exchange areas offer different ways to encounter that activity. The programme shows community participation; it does not measure wider tourist demand.
