A council advising Kagoshima’s Reimeikan history and art centre has called for stronger visitor outreach, better English-language materials and progress on digital archives. The prefecture has published an account of the council’s October 8, 2026 meeting, attended by 13 of its 15 members.

Members discussed the centre’s activities and a draft operating policy. Suggestions included replacing ageing air-conditioning equipment, improving the museum shop and strengthening links with schools. These were council opinions, rather than announcements of funded projects.

Members noted that only a small share of the collection can be physically displayed, making digital archives useful, while also urging ways to turn virtual viewing into visits. They asked for English brochures with more readable text and photographs and for outreach to cruise-tour visitors.
