Kagoshima’s 57 sentinel medical institutions reported 540 influenza patients during October 12–18, equivalent to 9.47 reports per institution, according to the prefecture’s October 22 update.

The prefectural average masks local variation: the Naze health-centre area was above the warning threshold, while Kagoshima City, Ijuin, Izumi, Kanoya and Tokunoshima were above the advisory threshold in the same reporting period.

The monitoring system uses reports from designated medical institutions to follow infection trends; these figures are not a census of every patient in the prefecture. Kagoshima had issued a prefecture-wide advisory on October 8 after the September 28–October 4 rate reached 10.58, exceeding the advisory threshold of 10.0. The October 12–18 figures describe a later reporting week, not a new October 24 declaration.
