Yamagata is lighting Bunshokan yellow from October 20 to October 27 as part of its October campaign against fraud. The lights run from sunset until about 9 p.m., according to the prefecture’s campaign page.

The campaign is coordinated with a prefectural anti-fraud council established on July 6 with 59 institutions and organisations from a broad range of fields. Its work includes sharing warnings through a network of member organisations, alongside public awareness activities.

The prefecture says reported losses exceeded one billion yen last year and were occurring at a faster pace this year. That is the authority’s assessment, rather than a full-year total for 2026. The page also lists earlier information bulletins, whose publication dates should not be mistaken for new incidents on the date of the illumination.
