Asahikawa is warning donors to be cautious about suspicious messages following unauthorised access to Furusato Choice, the donation portal operated by its contractor Trustbank. In a notice updated October 21, 2026, the city says donor information was leaked and that it is seeking details, an explanation of the cause and measures to prevent recurrence from the operator.
The portal handles donations under the city’s furusato nozei programme. The city says donation reception through the service has been suspended. Its notice asks recipients not to open links or enter account, password or card information in suspicious messages claiming to come from the portal or the city, and not to reply to unfamiliar contacts. The city cautions that the confirmed scope of the leak may change as the investigation continues.
