A tourism trial in eastern Tokushima is testing how destination suggestions can be joined to practical travel plans. App developer Plaru said on October 23 that it is working with the prefecture and East Tokushima Tourism Promotion Organisation across 15 municipalities, with Tokushima, Naruto and Matsushige as priority areas.

The trial includes work on route suggestions informed by railway and bus timetables. A free digital stamp rally runs from October 30 to February 28, 2027, using smartphone location services at participating spots. The company plans to examine app use, location information and surveys to assess whether suggestions lead to additional visits. Preparation, development and analysis extend across a separate August 2026–March 2027 trial period.

Local perspective

Matching places to actual transport connections addresses a different visitor problem from simply promoting more attractions: whether another stop fits the time available. That gives the trial a practical relevance for travellers using public transport. Its value still depends on workable suggestions and actual use; planned data collection is not evidence that local spending or visitor numbers have already increased.
