A learning festival at Yume Messe Miyagi in Sendai on November 3 will feature children’s robot projects and idea posters on Tohoku agriculture and food. Human Academy, a cooperating organisation, announced the programme on October 29. Admission is free and reception starts at 10 a.m.; activities accept participants on the day.

The elementary-school theme follows work from cultivation through food processing and distribution. Tohoku University’s FROM THE EARTH student group plans rocket-related exhibits and science activities, while Tohoku University of Art and Design students offer art experiences. These are learning activities, not agricultural technologies shown to be ready for commercial use.

Local perspective

Following a crop beyond the field makes the local food economy visible as a chain of different jobs. Robots then become a way to ask where effort is required, rather than an attraction detached from place. This gives overseas readers a concrete example of regional learning; it does not prove higher farm productivity.
