Sources and independent writing
We use official announcements and other sources whose facts and origin we can verify. Articles identify their sources and link to the relevant pages. We select facts and write our own headlines, structure, English text and Japanese summaries. We do not reproduce entire source articles, photographs or illustrations.
Our stories include verified background that helps international readers understand the subject. We do not add rumours or present speculation as fact. We distinguish an event date from an announcement date, and a proposed or scheduled action from a completed one.
Checks before publication
Each final draft is reviewed in order for originality, source-use conditions and background; factual accuracy; and English quality with Japanese consistency. A substantive revision requires all three checks again. An uncertain or unverified story is held back.
We aim to cover different regions and topics rather than repeat one locality. In crime reporting, allegations, arrests, charges and judgments are kept distinct. We avoid unnecessary identifying details about victims and minors.
Updates and corrections
Source pages can change after we publish. Readers planning to attend an event or use a public service should check the latest official information. To report a possible error, use our contact page and include the article link and a specific explanation. We review correction requests against the evidence and identify material corrections when made.
Advertising, if introduced, will be distinguishable from editorial content. A paid placement will not be presented as an independent news report.
